Stefano Casaccia:

Born in Triest, after having concluded his studies of ancient instruments at the Conservatory of Music “B. Marcello” of Venice, he perfected his studies with some of the most famous European recorder specialists, such as H.Köneke, F.Conrad, R.Clemencic and K.Boeke.

Awarded with different prestigious International awards, from 1971 he held over thousand concerts with recognition by the audience and critics in Italy, Europe, South America and Africa in the most important international festivals as well as in registrations for prestigious broadcastings.

He is part of the prestigious Ensemble “I MADRIGALISTI DI VENEZIA” from over thirty years. He is the founder of the Ensemble of medieval and Renaissance music “NUOVO RICERCARE” and of the Baroque Ensemble (in 1976) “NOVA ACADEMIA”.  Besides he plays also in the Ensemble "I MUSICISTI DELLA SERENISSIMA", and in the "DUO CASACCIA - STECCHINA" with Giuliana Stecchina, who plays the Celtic harp, and in the “BLUE ART ENSEMBLE” with Silvio Donati (componist and pianist), and in other important formations.

As soloist he played the Brandeburg concerts of J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, G. Sammartini and the concert of Giulio Viozzi for recorder and orchestra  (1992), as the first performance.

He played Compositions of Monteverdi and Caccini in important Lyric Theatres (in Bologna, Verona, Schwetzingen). In 2000 he participated in the "Trouble in the Jungle" of the Milanese composer Vanni Moretto together with the Ensemble of the “La Fenice” Theatre of Venice - for the Biennal exhibition (first absolute execution).

In 1981 he published his first LP entitled "Armonici Accenti” (Armonic Accents) with Istro-Venetian music of the XVII sec, in 1992 the CD "Il Vento del Nord” (The Wind from North) in Duo with GIULIANA STECCINA for the Rusty Classica. For the same house, with "I MADRIGALISTI Di VENEZIA" he cut a audio cassette devoted to Monteverdi and the other Venetian composers of his time  In 1994 he cut the CD "Ex Aquis et Silvis" with music composed by Davide MASARATI for the celebrations of the city of Cento.  In 1999 he cut the Concert BWV 1052 (IV Brandeburghese) of J. S. Bach - in F major - with Luca Ferrini at the cembalo and Manuel Staropoli playing recorder.  In 1999, on invitation of the Maestro Boris Jurevini - president of the Musicians of Croazia and artistic director of "I solisti” – he cut also the Francis Spongia-Usper CD of Rovigno (Istria). In 2001, he published the CD “L’Estro musicale Rovignese” (The music  flair of Rovinj) – music of Francis and Gabriele Spongia-Usper and M. Braijcovic with the Ensemble Nova Academia. In 2002 the CD "Mentre io vo’” (While I’m going) -  Music of the Italian Renaissance with the Ensemble “Nuovo ricercare” and the CD "La Coda della Cometa” (The tail of the Comet) with music of Telemann, Bach and Vivaldi with the group Baroque Nova ACADEMIA, with participation of the violinist CRTOMIR SISKOVIC and his Stradivari . In 2007 he published the CD "Andante-Suoni e atmosphere della laguna di Grado” (Andante – Sounds and atmospheres of the Grado lagoon) with music of Silvio Donati with the BLUE Art ENSEMBLE.

He published meaningful unpublished music (A. Scarlatti, Marcello, etc.)  for the Editions Zanibon (Padua) and Rugginenti (Milan).

He won two times the “Venezianello” Prize with I Madrigalisti of Venice ('81) and with the Nova Academia ('96); In ‘86 was awarded by the Cities of Venice and Triest for the decennial of its activity;  in '91 he was awarded in Rome at the National Academy of the Lincei by the SIFD – Società Italiana del Flauto Dolce ( the Italian Association of recorder). In ’98 the European Commission gave him the title of Ambassador for Europe as member of the I Madrigalisti di Venezia in the Festivals of the European Cultures for the years 1998-2002.

From 1997 as president of the Cultural Association Nova ACADEMIA he is artistic director of the Festival "I Concerti della Cometa” ( Concerts Of the Comet), especially devoted to the Ancient Music.               

Graduated in jurisprudence he is Professor of Recorder at the Conservatory of Music "G. Tartini" in Trieste.
